I wonder how London thieves would react to that :)

My panel drawing
You might remember the 1st (and only until now) picture I uploaded of my panel drawing. The quality was really bad but I sent it to HKS for him to have a look. I was really glad as I got a positive feedback and kept on drawing.
Yesterday then I went to a copy shop to get it scanned. Obviously my big hope was to get a good quality picture. As it turns out though the scanner can't really catch the pencil lines, which left me with a bad quality (but at least for free) scann of my drawing.

Well in the end I took a picture of the drawing which has a reasonable quality. I attached the panel picture again too so you can compare :)
Typography and paper crafting is a great thing...
Owen Gildersleeve is a very skilled designer and illustrator. His portfolio shows a great deal of handcrafted art which I love! As in my opinion there is too much digital work out there these days and I miss the "hand made" touch sometimes.
Anyhow I discovered this piece of work made by Owen and that's just how I feel too often....

We've been to Brighton today as the weather was sooo beautiful and I captured some things that I found interesting and inspiring. I wanna share these with you, have a look:
These are by Rick Bosman
The leaves are cut out from an A to Z :)
These two have little eyes on the branches. Really creepy!
A Dali watch, I love it!

It's coming together my Maya panel drawing
Here we go finally, the picture quality is not fantastic but you get an idea how it looks like. To me it looks really intriguing, I love all the details on the panel and how they look when they're drawn. I have to go back to the Museum and look at some parts again but it is finished soon :) It's a lot of fun and I can't wait to see it all done and dusted!

Jerwood Drawing Prize 2011
Helloooooo people... it's time to anounce my registration for the Jerwood Drawing Prize 2011 the deadline is the 20 June 5pm :) I thought that would be a fabulous opportunity to be even more motivated to keep being creative and draw draw draw...!! :D Not that I'd lack motivation...noooo I have already a list of things I wanna do. So my creative output clearly won't stop!
At the moment though I'm drawing on the panel for HKS, it's soon finished (well the pencil drawing) I just have trouble to get a good picture done. I wanted to scan it but the col. scan didn't work and b/w was crap so I'm still no further. I really want to send the pic to Hilary I just don't want to send one in such a bad quality. Because the drawing is all good and clean it just doesn't show on the pic :( I need my own A3 scanner damn it!!
Be back soon with more news and hopefully a pic :)

My 1st commision for a test drawing!
Occasionally things happen which you have never expected... So it happened to me that I met Hilary Koob-Sassen at the airport as I was waiting for my flight back home to Austria. He started chatting to me and eventually he suggested that he'll give me his email address so I can send him my portfolio.
To be honest I thought that was a joke or something (I haven't recognized him at this point, I was just very tired). After he left I googled his name as I was curios and it hit me quite hard as I found out who he was and what he's doing I can tell you.
Anyhow, back home I edited my portfolio and sent him the link. So far so good. He replied that he liked what he saw, especially "Hope" a drawing which showes the symbolic (!) struggle against cancer in this particular case but struggle in hard times in general. You can see the image below.
So to come to the point... :) he asked me if I can do a test drawing of one of the Maya panels in the British Museum. I was there yesterday to have a closer look at it and it looks really intriguing! You can find the pic below and a brief description what it is about. I'll start drawing the next days and keep you posted!! :)
Sooo exciting!!!!!

This lintel from the doorway of a Maya temple
depicts a royal blood-letting ceremony.
King Shield Jaguar III stands facing his wife,
Lady Xook, as she pulls a rope embedded with thorns
through her tongue. She is undertaking this painful
ordeal in order to contact Shield Jaguar's ancestors
in the spirit realm. In Maya society, a ruler's power was
based on the knowledge gained by communicating
with the supernatural world through blood-letting rituals.

Bricklane Street Art
If you've ever been to one of the 1st Thursdays in Bricklane you surly have seen these. If not... it's time to catch up!! :)
Panic???
Art in Austria... among other things :)
Here are a view pics of my visit back home, a little bit of art and just beautiful scenery :) Home sweet home!!
I love this one! Found it in a vintage shop, isn't is massive!
That was actually covering a tent :) looked really cool!
Reminds me of Senator Palpatine / Darth Sidious :)
Wouldn't you agree?
I would have bought it, it's stunning!
Just like the composition
Here is the last board and an update how it went in Bristol
Ok so I went to Bristol yesterday afternoon right after I came back from Salzburg. I just dropped my stuff and went and because there was so little time I thought I surely forgot something. I arrived in Bristol and the Hotel was exactly opposite the station :) very handy!
I was working on the boards for the rest of the evening and mounted them all nice on an A1 sheet. I did actually forget my essay so I printed a draft version where the text was in different colous (very embarrassing) and the bibliography wasn't finished :-O I thought when they see that they know it was all done last minute and that was it then for me...
I went to the Uni the next day, it was the same procedure as in Kingston, we all put our portfolios in one room and got a tour through a building. As we came back we needed to wait a little as they haven't been finished looking through it all. So we were watching Madagascar in the meanwhile which one of the girls who led us around put in so we don't get bored :) hihi
After a while a lady came back announcing a few names for people to collect their portfolios (they got already kicked out). The rest of us got an interview, I didn't even expect to get so far so I was quite relaxed :) I think it went ok, hard to say as they didn't give anything away but if I hear back this week I'm definitely out otherwise I get to know after eastern.
Anyhow I got carried away again :) here is the last board plus an artwork I found on the way to tesco :) ....

Some things are worth sharing :)
I found these two pics, the one with the sea side is from Ashleigh Barron and is called "Everyday Is Like Sunday" and I love this one. The colours and composition look just stunning! I could look at it for hours.
The other one is a quote from Jack Kerouac. It really made me laugh as I saw it so I thought it's worth sharing, have a look :)

The layout for the last board :D
I finished the layout for the last 'Bristol' board exactly like I planned it. To finish tonight I mean :D Now I just need to "clean draw" it and DONE. But I thought in case I'm not in the mood tomorrow anymore I can do it Sunday in the Hotel. I know, I know that's really last minute since I need it by Monday 9am but what can I say... I need a little pressure to get work done sometimes.
I've chosen 4 artists: Hannah Stouffer, Chris Parks (PaleHorse), Jan Van Eyck and Sean Freeman. I've chosen a clock like layout and just used type and the artists logos. Before and after their names I've written what I like about their art and what inspired me.
I hope you can recognize anything on this pic, it's just a pencil drawing and I used very little pressure plus the light is crap too but never mind. Once I finished this thing you'll get to see it :) That might not be before Monday night though.
Anyhow, here it is....

I changed my mind...
My painting... you know... well I didn't like how it looked so I changed it. To be honest that's how it always happens when I paint. I have a shitty painting under the good one :) hihi
Well, see for yourself. Once it is dry I probably will draw an ornamental pattern on the green/blueish side and it is standing because it is supposed to be that way.

...and the 2nd one is finished!
I finished the story board! Geeez my hand and eyes are aching a bit from all this detailed drawing but I'm quite pleased with the outcome. One more left to do and it needs to show my art influences and why they influenced me. You know I'm still on holiday back home and need to draw all the time to get this done but tomorrow is the big party :) That should be my reward hehehe
OMG yes I forgot, I also work on a contemporary painting for my grandma. It doesn't look like anything good so far but that's the same with all my paintings. It's not finished yet at all so don't be too harsh with your judgement ;)
So... break over! Back to work, I'll keep you posted!

My 1st story board
Can you believe I never did a story board before? I need to admit I thought it was a bit boring but so far I enjoyed it a lot. It is about my 1st trip to london and how absolutely amazed I was by the city and it's landmarks. It is not finished yet and you can't see the little speech bubbles very good but they'll be coloured orange and the rest stays b/w.
Comments are welcome, I'm always interested in other peoples opinions so don't be shy ;)

Inspiration boards...
As some of you know I still have an appointment on Monday in Bristol and am supposed to draw 3 boards about things that influenced me. I've chosen NATURE, LONDON and for the artists Hannah Stouffer, Jan Van Eyck and some more but I haven't decided yet. I need to select :) Well I'm just about to finish my 1st board -Nature- and time is running out for the other two. Always the same with me...
Anyhow I thought I show you my drawings for you to judge and enjoy :D

1st sketch for the art influence but clearly not the final one
1st Nature sketch but I wasn't satisfied with the compositon
London Storyboard
2nd and final Nature sketch
I like the composition, you need to look longer at the pic to discover all.
That's what I love!
Coloured sketch
That's the coloured original, not entirely finished though.
I wanna colour the background in a really light grey.
